Ukrainian San Antonio had an incredible opportunity to meet a very young and talented Ukrainian designer – Ms. Karina Shesha.

The uniqueness of Ms. Shesha's collection is that the clothes are made from Ukrainian head scarves. According to Karina, she created her first collection of scarves in 2014, when she was only 13 years old.

Head scarves are something special and magical for the young designer’s family. Her great-grandmother had a large collection of Ukrainian head scarves from all regions of Ukraine since 1982. All head scarves are uniquely different in every region of Ukraine, and their designs are as diverse as Ukrainian costumes. And yet, the interesting thing is that men also wore head scarves, for example, during courtship. The bride tied a head scarf on her future husband's sleeve as a sign of consent.

Nowadays many people no longer appreciate head scarves. In old days, the head scarves were as sacred and as important in Ukrainian life as embroidered shirts. Through her collections, Ms. Shesha’s aims to remind modern Ukrainians about the importance of traditional headscarves in Ukrainian culture.
