About the Батьківська Хата. Homestead project.
The goal of the project is to showcase the Ukrainian life of the late 19th / early 20th century from the all the main regions of Ukraine. The photographs for the project were taken at the Ukrainian National Museum of Folk Architecture and Life in Kyiv, Ukraine. All the clothes in the photographs are authentic and were provided by some of the most prominent ethnographers in Ukraine. People in the photographs are Ukrainians from Ukraine and Ukrainian diaspora from abroad.
Making of the Calendar
Members of our local community had a unique opportunity to collaborate with Natalia Sturgill, a private collector of authentic Ukrainian clothing, to recreate images of Ukrainians of the early 20th century pre-Soviet era. Ms. Sturgill’s impressive collection of hand-made authentic clothing and attributes is a treasure of Ukrainian heritage that we were lucky to experience first-hand and present to the rest of the world.
A group of Texan Ukrainians traveled to Georgia for almost a week to participate in the photo shoot for the calendar. But it also felt like a trip in time to experience the ways our great-great-parents looked and lived. We are also very proud that our youngest members of the community, as little as four years old, participated in this project.
Kids In Need Foundation
A big thank you to EVERYONE who supported the 2021 Ukrainian Heritage Calendar fundraiser. We were able to donate $1,000 to Kids In Need Foundation that supports Ukrainian Orphanages. We have previously teamed up with Kids In Need Foundation from Austin, TX to fund raise and support their efforts. In addition of sending support to Ukrainian orphanages, Kids In Need Foundation works with US families to host these kiddos from Ukraine for summer and winter breaks. Here are some photos of Ukrainian children who have received support from Kids In Need Foundation.

Ms. Sturgill and several members of our community provided the authentic jewelry and attributes to create images for calendar pages.
Putting it all Together
We put a lot of effort in making sure that clothing, jewelry, and attributes used on calendar pages accurately represented various regions of Ukraine.
